Your thoughts supports or prevents your success

The reason is that thoughts leads to feelings. Feelings leads to actions. Actions leads to RESULTS.

So the question then becomes – what do you think? If you dont know – I´m not surprised. If you think you know – I´m not surprised. Let me introduce you to the concept of Metacognition. Metacognition is just a fancy word for thinking about thinking.

I would like to challenge you to notice what you are thinking. For 1 week journal what you are thinking. You dont need to keep track of all your thoughts since it would be impossible. You have more than 60 000 thoughts per day. Look for patterns – your goal is to journal the thoughts you dwell on the most.

I´ve always considered myself as a positive, optimistic person willing to embrace life´s challenges with a positive attitude. Doing this exercise I realized that I have more negative thoughts that I could imagine and those thoughts were obstacles hindering me from all kinds of things. For instance I caught myself noting that I prevented myself from being honest, stand up for myself and not speak my mind. Dont get me wrong this can be a good thing in some situations but only if it is by choice and not as an automatic program.

Doing this exercise  you be amazed what you will find. It might be uncomfortable but since awareness is the first step to change (you cant change what you dont know) and take control of your thoughts and ultimately your life.

Turn your findings into actions

Journaling your thoughts for one week will give you a roadmap (patterns) for changing your thoughts. Look at the pattern that makes you feel the weakest, sadest and resignate with truth. Dont try to fix all your patterns at once instead prioritize them and try to control one problem at a time.

If you for instance comes up with a pattern “I never have enough time….” you can challenge that pattern by creating a counter statement such as “I always have enough time to do everything I need to do” which is the truth. You may not have enough time to do all the things you want to do BUT you always have enought time to do everything you need to do. Over time this new will help you weaken and eliminate your pattern. Change dont happen over night but with consistent effort it will.

By doing this exercise you will become aware of your current thought patterns – which is good. However, lets take it one step further.

Re-program your inner computer

Consider the following question. Where do your thoughts come from? Why do you think differently from the next person? Your thoughts originate from files of information that you have stored in your mind. This information comes from your past programming. Your past conditioning determines every thought that bubbles up in your mind. Hence the referal the conditioned mind.

Than the formula becomes. P (programming) leads to T (thoughts). T leads to F (feelings). F leads to A (actions). A leads to R (results). .

We are conditioned in three primary ways in every arena in life. Verbal programming – what did you here when you were young? Modelling – what did you see when you were young? Specific incidence – what did you experience when you were young?

Lets review an example regarding money & success.

Verbal programming – What did you here about money growing up? Did you ever here things like. Save your money for a rainy day. Rich people are greedy. Money doesnt grow on trees. Not everyone can be rich. We cant afford it. All the statements you may have heard remains in your subconscious mind as part of the blueprint that runs your financial life.

Modelling – What were you parents like in the arena of money? Where they spenders or savers? Where they investors or non-investors? Where they risk takers or conservative? Was money consistently there or was the flow more sporadic? Was money a source of joy or the cause of bitter arguments? Why is this important? You probably heard the expression monkey see – monkey do. Humans are not far behind. We tend to be identical to one or a combination of our parents in the arena of money. But there is also a flipside to that coin and that is that some of us end up being the exact opposite of our parents. This has to do with anger or rebellion – in short it depends how ticked off you were by them in terms how they handled money.

Specific incidence – What did you experience when you were young around money, wealth and rich people? These experiences are important because they shape the beliefs that you now live by. A simplified example would be if you as a youngster asked your mom for money to buy an icecream. Your mom responds – I dont have any money, dads got all the money. This incident repeats a number of times then you may start to adapt a belief that men have all the money.

“You can have all the knowledge and skills in the world, but if your money blueprint isn´t set for success you are financially doomed” – T Harv Eker.

As discussed earlier the first step to change is awareness. The second element to changing your blueprint is understanding – by understanding where you thinking originates you can recognize that it has to come from outside you. The third element of change is disassociation – once you realize that this way of thinking isnt you. You can seperate yourself from it and choose in the present whether to keep it or let it go. Once you can observe this way of thinking and see it for what a really is – information that was stored in your mind a long time ago and may not be true or hold any value for you anymore. The fourth element of change is re-conditioning – meaning replacing the information that exist in your mind with something that supports and serves you.

I hope you found this article valueable and realize that by doing these exercises and consider how your current programming/thoughts may effect you today. Not having programs / thoughts supporting you is like swimming against the current of a river, a huge struggle.
