How Do You Want To Feel 2019?

2018 is coming to an end and with only a few days remaining before a new year I hope you have reflected on the year that has past and set clear, stretching goals for the year to come.

Most of the time we set goals that we want to achieve like:

  • I want to lose X kg weight or
  • I want to increase my income with X$ or
  • I want to travel to a specific location or
  • I want to purchase a particular item (house, car, watch etc)

There is nothing wrong with that, but think for a minute. Are you really after the additional income OR are you after the increased freedom, security and control the additional income represents?
The reason that you want to lose weight is to feel something (sexy, happy, confident etc). The reason you want to purchase a particular car is that you want to feel something (successful, proud etc).

It is the feeling that we are after. Therefore, this year, I will try something different – I will set my goals based on how I want to feel.

Since it is what we are after anyway – why not start with that focus?

The problem with “material” goals is that in the end the feelings that follow with the object may not be what we strived for. Therefore I decided to start from the other side of the spectra.

How do I want to feel? I want to feel happy, peaceful, loving, secure, vital and energetic – based on this what do I need to do in the different categories of my life to accomplish this.

To feel energetic perhaps I have to change my diet and eat more vegetables and drink more water, instead of eating red meat and drinking wine. So the actions may be the same or similar (not always) as for a achievable goal but from a different perspective.

For me focusing on how I want to feel creates a clearer image of what I want to accomplish and why, but I must confess that this is the first time I do this so I don’t know the outcome of it yet.

I´m not saying that you should take this approach, I´m just presenting a different perspective on how you can approach setting goals. Use the method that makes most sense for you and drives you forward toward your goals, and remember “A GOAL WITHOUT A PLAN IS JUST A DREAM”
