You are probably familiar with the importance of having a clear and detailed BIG vision of what you want to accomplish. It is crucial, but sometimes it can have a negative impact on your progress.
The reason is, that most of the time our vision is a BIG LEAP away from where we currently are, and therefore it can feel overwhelming because the jump from present to vision is so big it almost feels out of reach.
One tip I would like to share that helped me bridge this GAP is to think of your vision as a box of Lego. The front of the box is your vision and just as with Lego to build that vision you have to open the box and assembly the bricks inside, one by one.
Thinking about the small moves forward helps you break things down to tangible items for you to take action on. One of the problems with thinking too big is you can feel afraid and spin out of control. I don’t know if I have the time to do that, I don’t know if I am capable to do that, I don’t know…
Breaking it down to small manageable pieces helps you focus on small steps instead of a huge picture. Think about it, this is how you create anything in life. How do you build a house? How do you lay a driveway? How do you build a business? You do it brick by brick.
So instead of focusing on the end result, focus on taking the first small brick in building the “lego set”. That´s all you need to do.
If you want to build an online business. Your end result may be to be able to quit your job and live life on your terms but your first brick may be deciding on a name for your website. This is tangible. It moves you forward and it is something everybody is able to do.
Word of advice though, be specific. How do you know if you have accomplished your “brick”? Have you purchased the domain name for your website? That´s how you know.
It is so much easier, creates control, and moves you toward your vision. Another cool thing is that allows you to be flexible since you are focusing only on a small piece it is easy to change for something else as you progress.
You start your journey with Plan A but plan A will never be the plan that takes you to your vision.
Along the way, you evolve and change. So, plan A becomes plan B, plan C, etc and if you are focused on thinking big, you will be focused on just doing one way and when things don’t go as you plan – fear is going to kick in and you will be stuck in overthinking unable to push forward.
By shrinking the idea of what to do with your life and how to make a change you make yourself capable of doing it.
